On Jan. 9, “People We Meet on Vacation” was released on Netflix as a rom-com based on the popular book written by Emily Henry that was released on May 11, 2021.
The plot of the movie was about two best friends that met in a carpooling agreement. Although they were two complete opposites, they promised to take annual vacations together, until one summer left them without speaking for two years. The movie has Poppy (Emily Bader) following Alex(Tom Blyth) to their final vacation, where they attempt to fix their broken friendship and confront the truth about their relationship, with moments that flash back to their vacations in previous years.
The film was rated PG-13 due to substance use and language. This movie is for anyone: rom-com lovers, readers and those who enjoy the “opposites attract” trope.
Some say this movie brings the feeling of watching old rom-coms, and holds positive reviews. Q.V. Houghs writes a review on Vague Visages, a film criticism website, “‘People We Meet on Vacation’ might just mark the beginning of a new golden age for romantic comedies, at least if sub-genre filmmakers can finally move past stale screenwriting tropes.”
A new era of movies is coming to our streaming services, which brings back the memories of old classics, like “10 Things I Hate About You,” starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, with a similar story of two people reconciling after a huge argument.
“People We Meet on Vacation” is continuing to roll in positive reviews as many are wondering when the next rom-com is going to come out. Safe to say fans loved this movie, and are requesting to see more of the same style.
