Free Cardiac Heart Screenings for Registered Lemont High School Students

Andrea Gory, Staff Writer

On March 11th, 2016 Lemont High School,is offering a free heart screening to all students who register for this opportunity.

The painless heart screening uses an electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) for students that are physically active to detect heart conditions by reading the heart’s electrical patterns.

An EKG has detected about 60 percent of heart conditions that are associated with cardiac arrest,  so being tested is highly recommended every two years to keep your heart in tip top shape.

Offered by the company Young Hearts For Life, more than 1,600 heart screenings have been given  to Lemont High School students in the first two Young Hearts For Life events held here.

Volunteers are needed for the event taking place on Thursday and Friday, March 10th-11th. No medical experience is needed.

Volunteers are required to check-in students, be “runners”, and apply patches for EKG leads. Volunteer training is mandatory and will be held on Thursday March 10th.

Donations are also accepted, and individuals interested in making one should contact Director of Activities and Athletics John Young.
