Every year, fashion month happens during February. Although these fashion shows have styles that are meant for fall, they create new trends starting in the spring and summer.

A few trends that started before fashion month include embroidery on denim, silk, and velvet clothing pieces, and fishnets. The embroidery on denim is usually of flowers or roses placed on the outer thigh area. Embroidery was a huge trend which died down but is now coming back into fashion. Silk and velvet clothing items are usually undergarments or simple dresses that you wouldn’t normally wear out in public. These clothing pieces are usually most popular in the colors burgundy, rose gold, champagne, olive green, and black. Fishnets are also back in trend since the beginning of 2016, being worn under ripped jeans.

On the runway in New York, it was all about bringing old trends back to life. Michael Kors, for example, used animal prints and cashmere in his collection. The Row included many looks such as sheer and silk dresses with long leather jackets. PH5 brought out stripes, ruffles, and sparkly wool dresses, making it look like theses trends never died.

Not only were designers bringing back dead trends, but they were bringing out their political views. The brand Public School had some models wear hats that were similar to Donald Trump’s hats that had “Make America Great Again,” but these hats instead said, “Make America New York.” Creatures of Comfort had some models wear shirts that said “We are all human beings,” which brought attention to women.

Not only are designers setting trends, but so are celebrities. The Kardashian clan is making the “Old Skool Vans” a common shoe to wear. Not only did the Kardashians make that shoe popular, they also made wearing chokers even more popular, even though they didn’t create that trend. Next to chokers, wearing more body chains on a day to day basis has become a popular trend. You can wear body chains not only when you’re wearing a bikini, but when you’re going out to hang out with friends.

At the end of fashion month, popular fashion websites and magazines, like Vogue, gather up photos from these fashion shows and post them on their websites, letting fashion lovers that didn’t attend the shows see what each designer created. Fashion month is now over, meaning that  the trends will gradually set in. Emma Potts, who has seen some designs said, “Fashion week is very inspirational to see because when I see the models walking down the runways in intricate garments, I think about the designers behind the scenes and how much their hard work has paid off. To see their dreams come to life on the stage inspires me to keep working hard on the things that I want to accomplish in life.” Now, fashion enthusiasts need to wait a few more months until September to see new fashion.
