With Ariana Grande’s love life being made public with instagram posts, tweets, and tragedies, it’s no surprise that she decided to express her journey moving on through music. Most songs concerning exes and overcoming break-ups detail the struggles of doing so, but Grande’s recent songs like “Thank U, Next” and “7 Rings” have been far more uplooking.

In “Thank U, Next” she begins by reflecting on her past relationships and touches on what she’s learned from them. She then moves on to how they’ve benefitted her, for example allowing closer relationships with her friends. Overall, Grande decides to focus on the positive outcomes of failed relationships while maintaining a sense of strength. She describes this track as being “vulnerable and gentle,” signifying to her fans that it’s okay to be emotional, but that it’s also important to look at the bright side.

This month, Grande decided to get a little more bold with “7 Rings” as she describes it as a “flex.” She notes how her past experiences have strengthened her but quickly turns the focus of the song to her economic success, proving to the public that despite her struggles she continues to prosper.

She also shows how she’s shared her success with those in her life, claiming to have bought seven rings – one for herself and six of her friends. She ultimately alludes to her engagement to Pete Davidson, but presents that the rings now represent her commitment to friendship.

Grande demonstrates both a soft and fierce approach in dealing with break-ups, but she shows fans that one can still flourish through struggles. Treating yourself with material items or simply time with your friends can make it all a little easier.
