Over the years, Ghirardelli has created all kinds of products from brownie mix to hot cocoa powder to chocolate chips and more. Despite this, they are most known for their large array of chocolates from dark chocolate with a caramel filling to basic milk chocolate.

While I was excited knowing how much I loved Ghirardelli chocolates, because of past times I had them, it didn’t live up to my expectations. The raspberry filling was jam-like but was too sweet and overpowering. The sheer sweetness of the filling was only a thin layer, but it was completely overwhelming to my taste buds. It tasted as if the filling was 99% sugar and just 1% raspberries.

However, the dark chocolate on the outside was delicious by itself and had the beautiful snap just like tempered chocolate should have. It wasn’t very bitter compared to other dark chocolates on the market, but had the perfect mixture of sweet and bitter. Even so, this only furthered the sweetness overload instead of using a bitter dark chocolate to balance out the taste.

Overall, if you are looking for a sophisticated chocolate this year, it might be best to shy away from the Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Raspberry.
