On Jan. 6, the horror film “M3GAN” was released in theaters only. The film has received very mixed reviews with a 94% rotten tomatoes score, but only a 6.5/10 rating on IMDB. Starring in this movie is Allison Williams, Violet McGraw and Jenna Davis.

This is director, Gerald Johnstones, first movie to hit theaters so it was very exciting to see how he constructed and directed the film.

The movie begins with the main character Cady’s parents being killed in a car accident. As a result of this, Cady is sent to live with her Aunt Gemma who works for a toy company and is in charge of developing robot-like toys.

Cady starts to struggle with depression and social anxiety due to her parents death. So Gemma creates a life-like doll, “M3GAN” to comfort her. At first, M3GAN takes care of Cady and acts as a companion, but soon the doll begins to kill anyone who brings any harm to Cady.

The plot of this film moves pretty slowly towards the beginning before Cady receives M3GAN, but then I felt the ending was a bit rushed. So much happened in the last 40 minutes of the movie it was hard to notice all of the details. The pacing was always changing throughout the film.

If you know the plot of the film “Child’s Play,” watching “M3GAN” you realize how identical the storyline is, making the entire movie rather predictable. So, if you are someone who loves a classic creepy doll plotline this movie is for you. Keeping that in mind, I would recommend watching the “Child’s Play” films instead because they are more iconic and favored in the horror industry.

I would not say “M3GAN” was a terrible film and not worth the watch, it just seemed like a rip off of other horror movies.  If you can see past the confusing pacing and repetitiveness of the film, I would definitely say give “M3GAN” a shot!
