Netflix’s new show, ‘That ‘90s Show” is a big hit living up to the beloved ‘That ‘70s Show.’

Everybody remembers the classic sitcom ‘That ‘70s Show’ released in 1998. The show followed Eric Forman and his friends, Donna Reid, Fez, Steven Hyde, Micheal Kelso and Jackie Burkhard. It was a huge hit in the early 2000s rivaling other classic sitcoms like “Friends” and “The Office.” Now the newly released sequel “That ‘90s show’ is living up to the expectation of its predecessor.

Released on Jan. 19, this new sitcom is an extension of the original. Starring Callie Haverda as Leia Forman, the daughter of the original Eric and Donna, the show is a great blast to the past. With returning characters of Red and Kitty Forman and parents Eric and Donna, the show brought ‘That ‘70s Show’ back to life.

Following the classic tale of spending time in the Formans basement, the show perfectly embodies the original. With co-stars Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Reyn Doi, Sam Morelos and Maxwell Ace Donovan the show crafts a perfectly balanced friend group that is wholesome and fun to watch. It is easy to root for the budding romance between characters and quickly developing friendships between leads.

Even better are cameos from original stars, Wilmer Valderrma, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, returning as their characters from the original show. Including these characters added a sense of nostalgia to the show while making the necessary connection between the two series.

However, the show fails to capture the same laid-back and humorous vibe, lacking some character from the original show. The show needs something to distinguish it from the original so that it was not simply a remake which is where it felt short.

Although I prefer the original, ‘That ‘90s Show’ is still a fun new sitcom that is worth the watch.
