On Oct. 27 the Chicago Bears suffered a heartbreaking loss 18–15 against the Washington Commanders at Northwest Field.
The Bears got off to a slow start on both sides of the ball, as the Bears couldn’t find a way to score until the third quarter after a 53-yard rushing touchdown by Bears running back D’Andre Swift.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Bears had an opportunity to score as the Bears had the ball placed at the Commanders one yard line, and on third and goal the Bears handed the ball off to offensive line Doug Kramer Jr. who was at the fullback position, Kramer—who had never played the FB position in his time with the Bears—fumbled the ball at the Commanders one-yard line, which was recovered by the Commanders at the three.
The Bears’ defense held the Commanders from scoring as they were able to get the ball back immediately after and the Bears were able to take their first lead of the night after a one-yard rushing touchdown from halfback Roschon Johnson.
After the touchdown, the Bears were able to complete the two-point conversion they attempted, with a pass from Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams to tight end Cole Kmet.
After Commanders rookie QB Jaden Daniels was able to complete a 73-yard hail mary, which bounced off a mix of Commanders and Bears players and landed in the hands of Commanders TE Noah Brown for a touchdown to secure the win.
Bears head coach Matt Ebuflus was asked about the team’s performance on Sunday in a postgame interview with Larry Mayer: “I just got out of the locker room; obviously the guys are disappointed,” said Eberflus. “When you lose a game like that, that’s a tough one to swallow coming back like that. I also told them in the same conversation I was really excited how they battled back. They battled back to have a chance to win that game. It’s important to look at that too.”
Moving on to week eight, the Bears look to put this loss behind them as they travel to play the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 3, 2024, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. at 3:05 p.m. Central Time (CT). The Cardinals are led by QB Kyler Murray and rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
