While die-hard Hunger Games fans are anxiously waiting for the new movie, a new teaser trailer dropped on Nov. 20, 2025, exactly one year from the expected release date in 2026. The film will feature well-known actresses like Mckenna Grace and Elle Fanning, as well as emerging stars like Joseph Zada starring as Haymitch Abernathy. 

For those who haven’t read the book (released March 18, 2025), “Sunrise on the Reaping” centers around Haymitch in the games during the 50th Quarter Quell. The catch to this Quarter Quell is that there are double the players from the usual 24. Additionally, everything from plants to water in the stream are lethally poisonous. Only rainwater and food from the cornucopia are safe to consume. 

There weren’t any mutts seen in the teaser, but the book features bear-sized porcupines, carnivorous squirrels, stinging butterflies, and more “muttations”. What was included in the teaser was the rupture of a large volcano. In the book, this volcano killed 12 tributes: six careers and six tributes from lower districts. It is still unknown whether or not the other deaths in the movie will stick to those in the book, but it is assumed that the plot will stay somewhat true.

Even though there is still one year until the release, there is still much to look forward to in the Hunger Games fandom.
