On Feb. 4, Disney released a reboot episode of “The Muppet Show” in hopes of starting a new series, and so far it’s been a hit. With the project being produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, people have high hopes that it will get the “green light” from Disney and continue to be turned into a full season.
Before this year, the last episode of “The Muppet Show” was released in 1981 and has not been touched since. Of course, they have released iconic movies and series, but “The Muppet Show” itself has not been brought to the 21st century until this month.
This special was 30 minutes long and had over 3 million viewers as it aired on ABC. Then, once it aired on Disney+, it became the No. 1 trending show in 59 different countries. This episode included three guest stars: singer Sabrina Carpenter (who performs a song), actor Seth Rogen ( an executive producer) and actor Maya Rudolph. Many fans were thrilled to see the celebrity engagement because they believe they were strong personnel who brought in a great amount of additional viewership to the episode.
Sabrina Carpenter’s engagement was especially entertaining as she had a feud with Miss Piggy, and sang a duet with both Kermit and Piggy. Carpenter interacted with a plethora of different Muppets. Her inclusion was also exciting as she has already publicly interacted with Miss Piggy at the last stop of her “Short n’ Sweet Tour” last year.
Additionally, on top of exciting celebrity appearances, they did a great job incorporating as many Muppets as they could, ranging from our favorites like Gonzo and Fozzie to lesser-known Muppets like Wayne and Wanda. However, many people online were wondering why Walter (the main Muppet featured in the Oscar-winning Muppet movie released in 2011) was not featured once in the episode. Fans hope that if the series continues, they will see Walter return.
As we wait to hear about the future of the series, fans encourage people to continue watching the special, continue posting about it and to continue supporting the Muppets so they can make their big TV comeback this year!
