Snow falls in New York City along with new fashion trends. New York Fashion Week showcased stunning shows from Feb. 11 to Feb. 16, highlighting different statements in fashion.
Utilizing earthy tones and pops of bright color, Tory Burch made a lasting impression at New York Fashion Week for the spring and summer season. The silhouettes of the designs are rather loose with neutral-colored sweaters and corduroy pants. The skirts showcased shades of brown and gray leather, fitted to the models which add contrast to the shape of the overall outfit. The show also displayed fish motifs, which could be a reference to the “Coastal Grandpa” aesthetic. The pops of color in the show are also marine-like, displaying navy blues, forest greens and sunflower yellows.
Additionally, leather purses were a large part of the show, encompassing the muted color palette with greens and tans. There was also some stark contrast with black trenchcoats against colorful tops, giving the eyes of audiences something to narrow in on.
Similarly to the Tory Burch show, the Ralph Lauren show immediately set the atmosphere by following the theme of Ralph Lauren’s rustic luxury. Many of the looks featured armor-like details such as chainmail mesh tops, metallic embroidery that looked like silver scales and shimmering hooded tunics. The collection also heavily embraced heritage tweeds and leather, eliciting the feeling of a refined English country estate. While the palette was rooted in earthy tones, it was punctuated by silver and gold accents. Large, ornate, vintage-style brooches were pinned to almost everything, from wool cloaks and capes to silk scarves and knit turtlenecks. The silhouettes displayed were primarily loose fitting, but an accentuated waist was almost always present alongside a belt. The show also included velvet gowns and metallic skirts that captured a similar type of elegance.
The Coach show this year was definitely one to remember, showcasing an alternative style. The show included pieces of Bermuda shorts and lots of plaid looks.
A standout feature of the show was that many of the models weren’t wearing clothing beneath their jackets, possibly to make a bolder statement. However, it also highlights the jackets that Coach has to offer in their spring collection. It also gives a more androgynous look, allowing for the jackets to be represented in either a feminine or masculine view.
Another notable memento is the astrological features on many of the clothes. Whether on the collar or stitched into the shorts, sun, moon and star brooches and earrings gave the Coach show a more grunge feel.
To highlight the most infamous part of Coach, models held different styles of bags, highlighting that Coach bags can also be styled more casually.
