Two years ago, Lemont High School’s baseball team ended its season as the state runner-up. This year, the boys have high hopes of securing a first-place victory after significant hard work and training. With a strong performance over the past two seasons, the team is ready to take on any challenge this season.
The varsity baseball team has been working hard to create a family among players, especially after losing a large number of seniors last year.
“Anytime you get new players on a team, especially young ones, you have to get them acclimated and make sure they feel like they’re part of the family … and right now I feel like our team is very strong and connected,” head varsity coach Brian Storako said.
As the 2026 season begins, the team has already begun preparing for victory with intense schedules and practice goals. Storako has a variety of baseball seasons under his belt, and LHS baseball fans have high expectations for the success that he can bring to the team this year.
This year, the spotlight is on seniors as they enter their final season, and these athletes aim to bring home victories for Lemont. In fact, this year’s senior lineup includes captains Brett Tucker and Cannon Madej, who played during the 2024 baseball state series.
“I think our seniors and our captains are doing a really good job incorporating all the new players onto the team, especially [during] the off-season workouts and practices so far,” Storako said.
Despite facing tough competition in prior seasons, the players feel motivated to succeed, especially knowing that state is within reach
“We just have to stay disciplined, and we can’t look too far ahead. It’s important that we take it one game at a time,” junior Zane Schneider said.
As the season rapidly approaches, be sure to catch a few games and cheer the boys to victory.
